Incorporating the multi-ethnic influences of the Los Angeles area, this year’s Los Angeles CORE Project design is four Angels supporting a vortex of flame. Each unique Angel is representative of the diverse ethnic and cultural influences of our fair city. The central Vortex, recalls a “Fire Sprite” from the fire whirl commonly spawned by large fires on the playa and is the child of the Angels and a reflection of the Fertility of the Regionals. The vortex, primarily constructed of recycled shipping pallet slats which have been pre-dyed red, orange, and yellow using natural vegetable dyes. During the days leading up to the CORE Project Burn on Thursday night, participants will be encouraged to write messages on the slats with their meaningful wishes, hopes and dreams prior to their placement on the structure by our volunteers.
