We Midwesterners have found that our area of the country is often misunderstood. Outsiders tend to view us as rural conservatives lacking any sort of progressive culture. This idea of false external preconceptions has inspired us. We wanted to portray to the citizens of Black Rock City an external image of how they perceive the heartland of our country. Then, allow them to “step inside” and discover the rich diversity, creativity, and inspiration that is coming from our part of the world. Our piece, shaped like the state of Nebraska, shows a false exterior while revealing the true culture thriving on its interior walls.
