Kokopelli, the iconographic symbol of fertility, beckons participants from his perch atop a circular platform with the diameter of 12 ft. Made of traditional vigas, the post and beam structure will stand 8 feet tall supporting the 12’ tall Kokopelli. This structure will be enclosed by a leaning skirt of salt cedar branches creating a beautiful New Mexico style intimate shaded space for the playa traveler. Access to the platform is provided at the top of a ladder inside the structure to allow burners a chance to see the gigantic phallus our Kokopelli sports. It will rise a bit every day until the burn.
Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player. Kokopelli presides over both childbirth and agriculture. He is also a trickster god and represents the spirit of music.
