CarouShell is a 20 feet tall by 20 feet diameter, rotating, interactive, wind/burner-powered, underwater-themed carousel, with a spiraling, conical shell top! Inspired by San Diego’s historic Balboa Park Carousel and local coastal life, CarouShell provides sea creatures and a surf board for Burners to ride. A stationary, central column offers the participants a ladder to climb amongst its kelp forest to a top platform at 14 feet above playa. The corkscrew-like roofline implies the spiraling surface of a conical shell. This shell houses a vertical wind turbine, which harnesses the playa winds to rotate CarouShell. At night, participants can control the entrancing interactive lighting by catching the “brass ring” to transform the piece into its various forms of radiating aquatic brilliance! The center column will be transformed for the CORE burn, to create a fire effect, which will dazzle and delight!
